About Us

Alan – a craftsman watch and clock maker  - was born in Truro and went to Redruth Grammar School. On leaving school he started in the jewellery trade as an apprentice to  J  Pearson and Son Jewellers in Boscawen Street, Truro. He won £25 – a month’s wages - when he was awarded the Arthur Tremayne prize for the best apprentice of the year. From 1976 he managed Gudridge and Son Jewellers at Perranporth and then owned it from 1987.

Alan Johns Jewellers in Truro celebrates 15 years of trading  - opening in October 1995.

In 1984 Alan studied in Japan and Switzerland as a Churchill Fellow.  He is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute,  a Fellow of the Institute of Registered Valuers and a Member of the National Association of Goldsmiths.

Alan Johns Jewellers believes it is a small and approachable business. It has well-trained staff with expertise in a wide range of fields, including watchmaking and gemmology. If we do not know the answer to your questions we will try and find the answer for you.

Training is a continuous process for all staff. A member of staff has recently completed her final years study as a professional jeweller and has passed with distinction.

Jewellery repairs and remodelling are undertaken. Valuations of jewellery and watches are carried out in-house. The latest modern equipment is used for testing and repairing mechanical and quartz watches. Customers’ sentimentally treasured possessions are carefully tended when in for repair, cleaning and valuation.

We have a beautiful range of traditional jewellers’ stock, with the emphasis on unusual items. We also take ‘one-off’ commissions.
